Ohhhh where to begin with this incredible Cooling Castle wedding. Vicky & Alfie wanted their day to be a big celebration for everyone and to ensure that their day reflected them as people. Vicky is a performer, as are many of their friends and every part of the day was punctuated with a performance of some kind. From floods of tears to roars of laughter, this wedding was just a rollercoaster of emotions for all who attended, not to mention the gorgeous couple.
With the ceremony room decorated in mostly white with feathers and butterflies, when you walked through to the reception you were hit by an explosion of colour. It was just like an enchanted forest with so many pretty, thoughtful details. The table names were famous fairies and each place name was a favour that had been individually created and crafted, also including a quote from a different Disney film on each…….one which they felt suited that particular person. Upon opening the little envelopes (which were sealed with a special A&V wax) there was a personal message inside for every single person that attended. This has to be one of the most touching and thoughtful things I have ever seen done at a wedding, but I heard the same thing mentioned by all of the tables….. ‘this is so Alfie & Vicky!’ All of the flowers and lots of the decor was by Confetti Connections. I got to meet them before the day began and they were such lovely people who were really passionate about what they were creating.
As well as all of this, they both looked utterly GORGEOUS, as did the whole bridal party. Vicky did what most girls dream of and designed her own dress!! She went to dress designer Andy Piccos and sketched what she had in mind and he then set about creating it for her. Vicky said that from putting it on paper to then wearing what she designed was so special and rewarding, it was everything she had dreamed of and I especially loved the little touch of having the pastels from the bridesmaid dresses incorporated into the bustle at the back. Andy Piccos made those stunning pastel bridesmaid dresses too. Alfie looked incredibly dapper in his 3 piece tweed suit, as did his 5….yes 5!!….best men in their tweed trousers and braces. Since I’ve put out some of their photos on Facebook I’ve had so many people ask me where he got the suit from and comment on how much they loved the bow ties and socks too. Believe it or not, the suit was from Topman! Just shows you that you don’t have to spend a fortune to look that good. The fact that they accessorized them with the harris tweed bowties and different coloured socks gave them even more character.
The ceremony itself was incredible. While everyone was being seated and waiting for it to begin, the very talented Shane Hampsheir sang and this was to be the very start of a day of brilliant music. I loved the way that Vicky threw her arms around Alfie when she got the end of the aisle and then all of the readings and performances throughout. Vicky’s mum’s poem was particularly beautiful and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room.
After the ceremony, the speeches were beautiful, touching and hilarious. Alfie is such a cool character who is very funny and his speech was brilliant. His 5 best men gave him lots of obligatory abuse, but it was also so lovely to see how close the lads all were, yes they all had embarrassing stories to tell, but you could see that they were all as close as brothers and its was so heartwarming. After this, it was time for more entertainment, this time from the bride herself. She had got together with her friends to plan a performance to How Will I Know which was a complete surprise to Alfie. I loved capturing the surprise on his face as well as all of the guests. It was brilliant but all very tongue in cheek and funny too. This wedding really was like a theatre show! And it didn’t end there, after Vicky & Alfie’s first dance, all of the girls, including mum and sisters, came onto the dance floor as a flashmob and danced to Uptown Funk and a surprise for Vicky…..it was only right that she got to be surprised on the day too right? from the look on her face to her then joining in with them, this was yet another golden moment from the day.
Vicky and Alfie didn’t want anything that had been done before and rather than look at other weddings for inspiration, they just went with their hearts and their own personal style. This made for one of the most amazing weddings I’ve ever had the pleasure of capturing. So much work went into this special day but what I loved the most was how relaxed they both were on the day. It was a huge wedding with so many guests and so many different things going on but it all went so smoothly. I’m sure that this was due to how great Cooling are as a venue but also how relaxed and confident this couple are and how comfortable they were with all the preparations they had done. They knew what they wanted, they created it and then they just sat back and enjoyed the whole day. Its one of the biggest days of your life and of course you want it all to be perfect, however, with all of the planning and organisation it takes, it can be easy to forget what its all about and why you are there. Mr & Mrs Mcnamara got it just right and I would say had a dream wedding. It was like one big West End show and I, as photographer, felt like I had one hot ticket! Thank you so much for having me Vicky & Alfie, even sitting here typing this I have a big smile on my face…..can’t we do it all again!? 🙂 xx
